Louis Swidzinski, 96, of Butler passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the VA Community Living Center in Butler. Born March 27, 1923 in Butler, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Pauline Schmidt Swidzinski Louis retired from Pullman Standard as a carpenter following 28 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, going to his camp and spending time with his family.

He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Louis was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was held prisoner of war in Germany for seven and a half months and was awarded three bronze stars for his service.

Surviving are three daughters: Mary Lou (Andrew) Plummer, Kathy (Randy) Davis and Sallie Ann (Calvin) Rippey, all of Butler. Eight grandchildren: Chris (Laura) Plummer, Bryan Plummer, Patricia Plummer, Joshua (Teddi) Davis, Stacie (Steve) Whitmire, Charles Rippey, Deanna (Jake) Klutinoty and Evan Rippey. Two great-grandchildren, Madilyn Plummer and Alexander Whitmire.

Two brothers, John (Patty) Swidzinski and Carl (Nancy) Swidzinski, both of Butler. Two sisters, Lucille Spohn of Baltimore, MD and Helen Dollman of Slippery Rock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Helen Cecilia Schultz Swidzinski who passed away July 28, 1993.

They were married August 18, 1945. Six brothers: Stanley, Joseph, Adam, Albert, Theodore and Frank Swidzinski. A sister, Eugenia “Jenny” Schultz.

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham St. Butler, PA 16001 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday from St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Avenue, Butler, PA. Interment will follow, with military honors, at the Calvary Cemetery in Butler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VA Butler Health Care, 353 North Duffy Road, Butler, PA 16001. Attention: CLC/Recreation Therapy Building # 20.
