Obituary of Lowell Cowell Lowell “Frank” Arthur Cowell, 73, of Morgantown passed away at his home on November 12, 2018 at 8:09 pm surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Wana, WV on October 10, 1945 to the late Arthur Gerald Cowell and Bessie Virginia Thomas Cowell. Frank graduated from Clay-Battelle High School in 1963 and machinist school in 1964.

He worked for Waynesburg Dairy, Howdershelt Garage, Galis Company and United Electric. Frank was the owner of several businesses including: Cowell Industries, United Maintenance & Manufacturing Inc., L & J Machine Co., Mason-Dixon Supply Company, Tool Box on Wheels and Ozone Security. He enjoyed card games with his dear friends and was an avid golfer.

He also enjoyed playing pool and watching NASCAR. He also enjoyed flying as a pilot. Frank also raced in the NASCAR Winston Cup series from 1981 to 1984, including the Daytona 500 and Firecracker 400.

His best finish was 14th in the Daytona 500 in 1982. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Jacqualine Carol Wilson Cowell; daughter Kimberly Hawley and her husband James of Morgantown; sons: Scott Cowell of Morgantown and Todd Cowell and his wife Lorie of Morgantown; sister: Ginger Brookover and her husband Gene; grandchildren, Zachary Cowell of DC, Erica Hawley of Morgantown, Travis Hawley of Morgantown, Cheyenne Cowell and companion Andrew Hoover of Pt. Marion, Presley Hawley of Morgantown, Andrew Cowell of Morgantown, Conard Phillips of Morgantown, Anthony Cowell of Morgantown, and London Phillips of Charlotte NC, great grandchildren, Jaina Stollings of Milton, WV, and Charley Grunau-Hawley of Morgantown, niece, Laurie Burks of Core, great nephew, Luke Cozort and wife Bree of Jakes Run, sisters-in-law, Judy Wilson of Daybrook, Joyce Clark and husband Dave of Farmington, Jan Wilson of Daybrook, brothers-in-law, Jerry Wilson and wife Eileen of Pentress, Jeff Wilson of Spraggs, PA, Jim Wilson and wife Carol of Daybrook, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to his doctors at Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Mon Health Center, their nursing staff and the infusion center, Hospice Care, especially Megan, Tony, Sarah, Rev. Craig Falkenstine and Rev. Brian Long of Reedsville UMC for all their love and support.

Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Morgantown from 3-5 & 7-9 pm Thursday and on Friday from noon until the 1:00 pm funeral service with Rev. Brian Long officiating. Entombment will follow at Pisgah Cemetery at a later date.
