Luanne’s Obituary Luanne Rothstein, age 74, a lifetime resident of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019 at her home. She was born in Big Rapids on November 16, 1944, the daughter of Delbert and Evelyn (Webster) Long. Luanne graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1962.
She attended Alma College and Ferris State College. Luanne married Dan Rothstein on January 3, 1964 in Big Rapids where they raised their family. She was employed by the Mecosta County Abstract Office which her parents owned, was a legal assistant and secretary for different attorneys in the area, an administrative assistant at Caring Dentistry, and worked at the Mecosta County Register of Deeds until she retired.
Luanne was involved in many activities in the community. She participated in the Mecosta County Relay for Life Cancer Walk and served as Co-President, was a member and past President of the Ferris State University Blue Line Club, served on the Big Rapids School Board, was a Chair and member of the Big Rapids Zoning Board of Appeals, served on the Big Rapids Parks and Recreation Board, was a leader, camp director and water safety instructor for Mecosta County 4-H, as well as a water safety instructor at the Big Rapids Community Pool. Luanne was a moderator and served on the governing board of United Church in Big Rapids where she also participated in the Chancel Hand Bell Choir and served as a co-chair.
She enjoyed reading books on the river. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Janet Long Burch; in-laws, Maury and Vera Rothstein, and her daughter, Danelle Rothstein Davis. Luanne is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dan Rothstein of Big Rapids; daughter, Laura (Gus) deBold of Big Rapids; three granddaughters, Mary (Dan Reinisch) Davis, Katie Davis, and Cecilia deBold; brother, Doug (Valerie) Long of Maryland; brother-in-law, Bill (Sharon) Burch of Rockford; niece, Darcie Wolf and nephew, Spencer Long; widower of Danelle, Pat (Pam) Davis and his mother, Shirley Davis; and special friends from the PITS Crew.
A memorial service will take place 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the United Church in Big Rapids with Reverend JT Hills officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Luanne’s name to the United Church in Big Rapids.
