Lucille’s Obituary Colonial Funeral Home 2170 Highway 88 Brick, New Jersey 08724 Lucille Eckerson Benoit, 87, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Shorrock Gardens Nursing Home, Brick, New Jersey. Lucille was born and raised in Spring Valley, New York by Rose Pitt and George Eckerson along with three siblings, graduating from Spring Valley High School, then Englewood School of Nursing where she earned her RN. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Donald Benoit, in 1954, settling in New City, New York, where they raised their four children.

She dedicated her working life to nursing in Rockland County, in several capacities: at Good Samaritan Hospital; for OB/GYN Dr. Harold Siegelbaum; retiring in 1990 from school nursing in the East Ramapo School District’s South Madison Elementary School. While working as a school nurse, Lucille attended St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York earning a BA in art. Lucille and her husband moved to Ramsey, New Jersey in the late 1980’s, then settled into retirement in Valrico, Florida, where they lived until 2017.

After her struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease, Lucille passed away attended by her children. Lucille was predeceased by her husband, Donald, in 2018, her granddaughter, Hanna Lucille Silverman, brother George Eckerson, and sister, Cheryl Wirth. Surviving are her four children, Dianne Caruso, Donald Benoit, Jr., Michael and Andrew Benoit; her sister Georgianna Polhemus; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Cremation will be private. Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Hwy. 88, Brick is in charge of arrangements.
