Luther Alexander Gotwald Jr., 91 of Johnstown, PA, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018. He was born February 9, 1927 in Chirala, India, son of the late Ethel Bare Gotwald and Luther Alexander Gotwald, Sr. Luther was a graduate of Gettysburg College and Seminary. He shared his ministry in acts of faith and service as Pastor in Point Township, Northumberland, PA from 1950-1957, St. Marks, Emigsville, PA from 1957-1965, and St. David’s, Davidsville, PA from 1965-1988.

Luther also served as Assistant to the Bishop of Allegheny Synod from 1988-1992. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Louise Burkholder Gotwald; son-in-law, Andrew Leach; and siblings, Frederick Gotwald, Emily McNeill, Mary Fry, and William Gotwald. Luther is survived by his children, Timothy and Mary(Oyer) Gotwald, Judith Leach, Daniel and Linda (Datko) Gotwald, and Sarah and James Kucherer; grandchildren, Elizabeth Willson, John Gotwald, Katherine Bonilla, Nathaniel Leach, Alice Gotwald, Cheyenne Gotwald, and Julie Kucherer; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Tobias, Miriam, Mathias, Rachel, Peter, Eli, and Javier; and sisters, Susan Lose and Ethel Foor.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 4th at 3:00 PM at St. David’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Davidsville, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sequanota P.O. Box 245, Jennerstown, PA 15547 or St. Francis Sharing and Caring 107 Stevens Ln. , Hollsopple, PA 15935.
