Obituary for Luther S. Masumoto Luther S. Masumoto, age 70, of Grants Pass, died April 13, 2018. Luther was born February 29, 1948 in San Diego, California to Sam & Matsuye Masumoto. He graduated from Sweetwater High School in National City, California in 1966.

From 1966 to 1970 he served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He then attended San Diego Mesa College in San Diego, California. In 1989 Luther moved from San Diego, California to Grants Pass where he owned and operated Masumoto Garden Service since 1990.

He married Carol Harper in Reno, Nevada in 1990. Luther was a member of the Japanese American Citizens League. He founded the youth outreach group, FISH Christian Drop Center in Gardena, California.

Luther enjoyed many hobbies, though fishing was his favorite. Besides fishing, he enjoyed gardening, reading, puzzles, games, and music. Survivors include his wife, Carol Masumoto of Grants Pass; a son, Tom Escarzaga and wife Melissa of Grants Pass; two daughters, Tammy Sawyer and husband Chris and Kathy Escarzaga all of Beaverton; four sisters, Caroline Swayze, Shirley Ryan, Joyce Masumoto and Debbie Arsenault; a brother, Ken Masumoto; and five grandchildren.
