Mabel Hoffman of Glenwood City died on April 7, 2018, at Glenhaven Nursing Home, Glenwood City, at the age of 89 years, 10 months. Mabel Rose Voeltz was born on June 7, 1928, in Forest, Wisconsin, the daughter of Walter and Selma (Gerber) Voeltz. She was baptized and confirmed in the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forest.

She enjoyed working in the garden and specifically, flower gardens became her true passion. She volunteered in the Open Class Flower department at the St. Croix County Fair for several years. She enjoyed traveling, nature, and staying involved with her grandchildren.

After their children left home, Mabel and Bill hosted three foreign exchange students. Later, they traveled to Germany to visit two of these students. Mabel also enjoyed going with Bill to different cities where the REA conferences were held.

Over the years, Mabel was very active in her church life. She taught Sunday School, attended Circle meetings, and held several offices in WELCA, the women’s group at Holy Cross Church. Mabel was secretary of the local AAL branch.

Mabel had developed a passion for defending the environment, for local social issues, and for third world missions. Her enthusiasm and well-thought-out arguments always made for a dynamic discussion at gatherings. In her home, she usually had talk-radio playing or one of her favorites: church music.

Mabel was always eager to spend time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed having them in her home, at her dinner table, and playing in the yard. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Selma Voeltz; Son Jerry, her sister Marian, her brothers Robert and LeRoy and his wife Lois; her sister-in-law Wanda Hoffman; and brothers-in-law Clarence Luepke and Dick Prange.

Mabel is survived by her husband, Bill, of Glenwood City; her sons, David (Theresa), of Glenwood City; Ronald (Joyce), of Colfax; Neil (Annette), of Cameron; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Hoffman, of Downing; 11 grandchildren, Eric (Amber), Scott (Katie), Kyle, Alexa; Bob (Ashley), Laura (Brent Haugle); Nathan (Shanna), Tammy (Derrick Oberle); Chelsea; Hillary; Josie; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Geraldine Luepke of Glenwood City; Ethel Prange of Saluda, North Carolina; and Floyd (Vonnie) Voeltz, of Scottsdale, Arizona; and by her brother-in-law Dr. Robert Hoffman, Flandreau, South Dakota, and sister-in-law Iona Voeltz, New Richmond, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will held on Friday, April 13, 2018, at the Glenwood City Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor Jonathan Zielske officiating.

Visitation is from 10 to noon at the church. Service will be at noon with a lunch to follow. Arrangements were by Anderson Funeral Home, Glenwood City.
