Mabel R. Allen Reed, 98, died in her sleep at the Truman Medical Center Long Term Care Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri on January 16, 2019. Mabel was born on November 18, 1920 in Kansas City, Kansas to George Nolan and Mattie Lillian Davis. She was educated in Kansas City, Kansas schools attending Stowe Elementary School, Northeast Junior High School and Sumner High School, graduating in May 1938.

After graduation, she married Lawrence Russell. Their son is Robert H. Russell, II. During WWII, Mabel worked at the Sunflower Ordnance Depot.

During her professional career she worked for many branches of the Federal Government, retiring from the Social Security Administration in 1985 after many years of service. After her son Robert graduated from college, Mabel started her college career. She graduated from St. Mary’s University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and then began graduate school.

After converting to the Roman Catholic faith in 1952, Mabel was a faithful member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, (Kansas City, Kansas). Upon moving to Kansas City, Missouri, she transferred her membership St. Monica Catholic Church. An active parishioner, Mabel was also a member of Fr.

Constantine Court #57, Knights of Peter Claver, Ladies Auxiliary, where she served in various positions including Vice Grand Lady, Treasurer and Recording Secretary. Her service in the Knights of Peter Claver was recognized by her exemplification into the Meritorious Ranks of the 4th Degree, Ladies of Grace, Knights of Peter Claver. Mabel was a charter member of Fr.

Phillip Chapter #17, Ladies of Grace. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents and four husbands: Lawrence Russell, Herman Allen, William Thatcher and Willard J. Reed, her husband of 35 years. She helped raise a foster son, Ebb Everett, of the city.

She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Robert (Catharyn), her grand-children, Phaedra (Marcus), Robert III, Jeanne (Lee), Thor (Dana), and great grand-children Tyler, Andrew, Siena, Carson, Rian, Catherine, Matthew and Phaedra.
