Makley Lewis, 93, of Harkers Island, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at his daughter’s home on Harkers Island. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Dell Murphy.

Interment will follow at the Willie D. Willis Cemetery on Harkers Island. Makley was a good Christian man who loved the Lord and was a member of Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church. He started his career working with his father, Brady, building Core Sound Flair Bow Boats.

After building boats in his early life, he then went into commercial fishing. He loved being on the water and had some of the biggest catches while floundering with his brother, Daniel “Danny Boy”. He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Yeomans and husband Terry of Harkers Island; son-in-law, Tommy Lawrence and fiancée Karen of Harkers Island; brothers, Oliver Lewis and wife Elaine of Harkers Island and Mitchell Lewis and wife Melinda of Harkers Island; sisters-in-law, Collo Brooks and husband Red of Harkers Island and Linda Rose of Harkers Island; brother-in-law, Willie Rose of Otway; grandchildren, Thomas Lawrence, Jr., and fiancée Mattie and Makley Lawrence and wife Angelia; great-grandchildren, Gunnar Lawrence and Ivey Lawrence; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brady and Elizabeth Lewis; wife, Florence Lewis; daughter, Lizzie Lawrence; sisters, Lela Mae Willis, Bethany Bryant and Christine Rose; and brother, Daniel Lewis. Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations can be sent to the American Heart Association at 7272 Greenville Ave.
