Manuel Katz, 90, of Aliquippa, died Saturday, November 3, 2018 in Heritage Valley Health System, Beaver. He was born July 30, 1928, in Sewickley, Pa. to the late Nathan and Minnie (Tennebaum) Katz and was raised in West Aliquippa.

After graduating from Aliquippa High School in 1947, he attended Geneva College. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as an infantry medic in Korea. He later worked at a hospital in Sendai, Japan as the chief xray technician taking xrays of the the schrapnel wounded servicemen.

Manny retired from the roundmill department of the former Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation after 40 years of service. He also owned and operated Quick Chef Foods which served frozen food to local restaurants, bars and schools. Manny built and operated the former Pennywise Market which is now the site of Mitchells Jewelers on Mill St. in Aliquippa.

He was a long time member of Beth Samuel Jewish Center in Ambridge and Aliquippa where he was in charges of the buildings and grounds. He was a member of the Celtics Reds Athletic Club, Aliquippa and enjoyed being chairman of several class reunions. .

He was on the track team at Aliquippa High School and Geneva College where he won several medals as a javelin thrower. His passions is life included fishing, gardening and football. Nothing made him happier thou than entering and winning several dance contests with his wife Betty.

Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Mallinger Katz, two sons, David and Richard Katz, a sister, Ruth Erlich, a brother, Arthur Katz and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was a brother Louis Katz. A private graveside burial service was held at the Shaare Torah Cemetery, Pittsburgh In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are sugggested to Liberty Dialysis Clinic, 400 Commerce Drive, Aliquippa, Pa.
