Obituary for Margaret Ann Thoms Margaret (Peggy) A. Thoms, age 88, of Carleton, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Wellspring Lutheran Services in Monroe, Michigan surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 16, 1930 in Wheeling, West Virginia, she was the third child of five, one brother and three sisters, to Jacob and Hazel (Price) Creisher. Margaret grew up in Wheeling until her family moved to Detroit in early 1940’s.
She graduated from Southwestern High School Detroit, Michigan in 1948 and started working at Crowley’s Department store in downtown Detroit in various positions until she accepted a position in accounting and stayed until the mid-sixties. On June 7, 1952 she married Floyd Thoms in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Detroit, MI. and remained together for forty-three years until Floyd’s death in 1995.
They lived in Detroit until 1969 when they moved to Carleton. Margaret was very giving of herself, supporting the efforts of her husband, children and grandchildren her entire life. She would send personal notes to family to give them encouragement, support, congratulations and love.
Margaret was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid, several Quilting groups and Frenchtown Senior Center. She volunteered for the Food Ministry at Monroe Outreach Assembly of God. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Ann, husband, a sister Martha Wolff and a brother Jacob.
She is survived by her son, Steven (Susan) Thoms of Chelsea, MI and three children, Benjamin, David and Katherine; daughter, Susan (Patrick) Steffes of Monroe, MI and two grandchildren, Joshua and Christopher; sisters, Rosemary Carlson of Iron Mountain, MI and Sue Harvey of Cave Creek, AZ. , along with numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may visit in the Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home, Carleton Chapel on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Funeral Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 11:00 am. She will lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service. Rev.
Jeffrey E. Wade will officiate the service. Burial will be in Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, Michigan. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to the St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Cancer Center, Wellspring Lutheran Services, or St. John’s Lutheran Church.
