Obituary for Margaret “Peg” Weltzheimer Margaret “Peg” Weltzheimer. Born in Battle Creek, Michigan, August 2, 1940 to parents Paul H. and Evelyn Porter Weltzheimer; died peacefully at Dublin Methodist Hospital, Dublin, Ohio, April 7, 2018. Peg grew up in Battle Creek, MI, and then Clintonville.
She was a proud Polar Bear, attending Columbus North High School where she was in the orchestra and marching band. She graduated from Stephens College in Missouri, and earned her B.A. in Education from Kent State University. She taught third grade in Ashland, OH and in the Columbus Public School system with classrooms at both Avondale and Como Elementary.
In Clintonville, Peg was a Camp Fire girl with her mom as the group leader. The members of that NaWehOki Camp Fire group remain close friends 70 years later! She was a camper, junior counselor, counselor (Miss Chip), and longtime supporter of Camp Wyandot in the Hocking Hills.
Peg was a life-long lover of music – she played the piano and violin, and any other stringed instruments and enthusiastically attended Columbus Symphony Orchestra performances. She loved to travel so much that she eventually became a travel agent. Her favorite destinations included the British Isles and Alaska leaving her a devoted follower of the Iditarod.
She loved playing bridge and Yahtzee, reading spy thrillers, knitting, was an avid collector of bears, and appreciated finding a good sale while online shopping. She was joined by a lifetime worth of beloved dogs: Genny, Geppy, JT, Aggie, Maggie I, and Maggie II. She also enjoyed eating out, and sadly missed weekly trips to Bill Knapp’s Restaurant and to Gable’s Ice Cream with her friends.
Peg was a member of Clintonville Woman’s Club and the North High Women’s Association. Carol Bowker was her closest and dearest friend. Other longtime friends who will mourn her passing include Jig, Ann H., Ann D., Janice, Sharon, and many others including Brad Baker and family.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy (Sally), nieces, Polly (John) Hoelker and Abbie (Fred) Meyer, and grandnieces and nephew, Elizabeth (Dave) Webster, Ben (Emily Strickland) Searfos, Maddy, and Sarah Meyer, and beloved cousins Suzanne, Bob, Mary, and Rick. The family wishes to thank the skilled and caring team at Dublin Methodist Hospital. The nurses, doctors, chaplains and even housekeeping staff are without peer!
