Margaret Deahl Walters, 65 passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Cheyenne Mountain Care Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Margaret was born in La Junta, Colorado on August 31, 1953 to George Ed and Mary Jane Allen Deahl. Margaret was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mollie Cartwright Allen, and her father, George Ed Deahl.

Margaret is survived by her son, Ryan James Walters of San Diego, California, her daughter, Molly Beth Walters Clark (Alex) of Fort Smith, Arkansas;… Read More » her Moma, Mary Jane Allen Gearhart (Gus) of La Junta, Colorado; her brother, Charles Ed Deahl (Tina) of Shellsburg, Iowa; her sisters, Linda Deahl Jones (Mike) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Connie Deahl Smith (Herb) of Eagle Nest, New Mexico; her stepbrothers Jace Gearhart of North La Junta, Colorado and Tim Gearhart of Swink, Colorado and her stepsister Tamera Gearhart Kempton of Bellevue, Nebraska; her aunt, Frances Schlegel of Rocky Ford, Colorado; her nieces C J Jones (Greg) of Cocoa Beach, Florida and MacKenzie Deahl of Shellsburg, Iowa; her special nephews Darald Smith (Melissa) and Levi Smith of Pueblo, Colorado; her nephew Travis Allen Jones (Shelly) of Fresno, California; her great nieces Natalie Smith and Adalyn Smith of Pueblo, Colorado; several cousins throughout the country and world, including her cousin and lifelong friend, Barbara Schlegel DuBois of Black Canyon City, Arizona, and her special friend, Robert Newsom of Cheraw, Colorado. Margaret attended elementary schools at Lakeview Elementary in Hasty, Colorado and Washington Elementary in Lamar, Colorado. She attended Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado, transferred to Alamosa State College in Alamosa, Colorado and eventually obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting with honors at the College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas in 1982.

Margaret married R J Walters of Fort Smith, Arkansas in November 1975 at the United Methodist Church in La Junta, Colorado. Their children, Ryan and Molly were born in Fort Smith Arkansas. In addition to being a wife and raising her children, Margaret’s career included several years as an auditor at the First National Bank, followed by several years as an accountant at Don Rey Media, then followed by several years as an auditor at Beverly Enterprises, all in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Margaret returned to live in La Junta, Colorado from 2002 to 2018, some years after her divorce. Margaret Deahl Walters fiercely loved her children and was devoted to her family and friends. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in La Junta, Colorado.

Margaret was a talented artist and writer. She was one of those rare individuals who didn’t know a stranger. Margaret was a unique, determined, bright and vibrant person who loved life and who loved to smile and laugh.

Margaret will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the United Methodist Church at 6th and San Juan in La Junta, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of La Junta and/or to Meals on Wheels of La Junta.
