Marguerite Tubman Hartter, age 89 of Waldorf, Maryland (formerly of Bethesda), died January 22, 2019. She was the daughter of Benjamin D. and Marguerite B. Tubman. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by two great loves in her life – her husband, Bill, and their son, Benjie.

She is survived by her sisters, Marilyn C. Tubman and Anne Tubman Gardiner and her husband Donald; her niece, Kimberly A. G. Bowling and her husband Lee; their sons, Tyler and Grayson; and other close relatives and friends. She had retired from the local telephone company after 38½ years of service. Her volunteer activities included helping a friend get a cookie business established, working on fund-raisers for the local Association of Retarded Citizens, tutoring in reading and writing English for the Literacy Council, and serving at the Bethesda Cares lunch program for disadvantaged persons.

Marguerite received, and was thankful for, many blessings in her life and always tried to, as she put it, “let my little light shine”. She asked that you do not mourn her, but instead, sometimes read or sing her favorite prayer, “The Prayer of St Francis” in her memory. Friends received on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 10AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 17502 Aquasco Road, Brandywine, Maryland 20613.

Interment at a later date at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a gift to your favorite charity. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Marguerite Tubman Hartter please visit our Sympathy Store.
