Obituary of Marguerite Westcott Marguerite “Margie” Ferro Westcott, 87, of Baldwinsville, NY, who lived in many other locations, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, June 23, 2018 in Oswego County, NY. Margie was born to parents Victoria and James Ferro, on January 24, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio. Margie attended Shaw High School in Cleveland, was a talented member of the art club and graduated in 1949.

She later studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art, where she began to improve and develop her creative skills. In 1952, Margie met a young merchant marine named Roy Westcott of Hannibal, N.Y. The two fell in love and soon married. The family eventually grew to six as Roy’s career brought Margie and the children to many states from coast to coast.

Whenever the family moved, Margie brought with her the values she had inherited from her upbringing in an Italian immigrant home. As such, her close friends and family – particularly her children – remained her greatest priority. Meals and holidays, especially with extended family, were joyous occasions.

Margie cared deeply for her loved ones and selflessly gave her time and attention to help make their lives easier and better. On top of that, Margie was fun to spend time with; she never lost her silly and playful sense of humor. While spending time with children, she often repeated a whimsical Italian nursery rhyme; the first word of the rhyme “Beeda,” eventually became her nickname.

Margie enjoyed baking, sharing –and eating –cookies, pies and treats, reading novels and challenging herself to crossword puzzles and word games. She also liked playing games with family and friends. Throughout most of her life, Margie attended various art classes and became a skilled painter.

Her body of work includes hundreds of beautiful landscapes and other attractive images. Margie regularly stayed in touch with her friends and loved ones by sending them personal and caring notes; each one included a copy of one of her paintings on the cover of a hand-made greeting card. After Roy’s retirement, Margie traveled with him between Upstate NY and the Central Coast of CA.

In 2014 they moved to Baldwinsville, NY to be closer to grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. Survivors include; three sons and a daughter, Gary Westcott and Steven Westcott of Hannibal, NY, Susan Westcott of San Luis Obispo, CA and Daniel Westcott of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Gloria Meeks; brother, Joseph Ferro and other family members reside in California. The family greatly appreciates the efforts of caregivers Mary Dennison, Julie Hart, Patty Sweeting and all those who helped her remain comfortable and happy during her final months of life.

There will be no calling hours or service at this time. Foster Funeral Home, Fulton, has care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Friends of Oswego County Hospice, P.O. BOX 102, Oswego, NY 13126, friendsofhospice.org/about/ in Margie’s memory.
