Klock, Marianna “Maya” (Nelson), age 79, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2018, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth surrounded by her loving children. She was born on July 1, 1938, in Quincy, MA, to Nels E. Nelson and Evelyn Woodworth and was the younger sister to Robert E. Nelson who predeceased her. Maya studied opera as a teenager, graduated from North Quincy High School, and attended nursing school.

She raised three children in Pembroke and later, Carver, MA, where they were active in 4H, and co-founded The Happy Hoofs Horse 4H Club. Maya worked as an LPN at Quincy Hospital for a number of years, as well as in nursing homes and private homes. Maya lived an unconventional life, and that is what made her so unique and so loved by so many.

She easily made friends wherever she went, due in part to her ability to find humor in everyday things. She was compassionate, helpful to others, and very supportive of her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her exceptional home cooking skills, making amazing carrot cake, fantastic pies, authentic Swedish dishes, Christmas cookies, and other baked goods, in which one could taste the love that went into her recipes.

A life-long animal lover, Maya was involved in the rescues of countless animals and was a certified beekeeper. Maya bred and showed many different dog breeds before finding her true love in cocker spaniels. She bred, handled, and showed Champion cocker spaniels across the US, including co-owned Rudy, the most top winning ASCOB in US history, who lived out his retirement with her.

She was heavily involved with The Cocker Spaniel Breeders’ Club of New England (the oldest, most prestigious cocker spaniel club in the country) since 1996, and was elected President of the Club in 2017. She was also a life member of the South Shore Kennel Club. Maya is survived by her son, Robert S. Klock and wife Jodi (Giorgetti), and two daughters, Heather (Klock) Reid and husband Raymond, and Lisa (Klock) Hadfield and her husband Scott.

She is also survived by five, cherished grandchildren; Kelsea Reid, Jordan Reid, Samuel Klock, Ryan Klock, and Miranda Hadfield. Family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Maya’s Life on Sunday, July 1, 2018, from 1-6 p.m., at the Hilltop Athletic Association, 65 Pottle Street, Kingston, MA. Arrangements by Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home, 4 West Washington St., Hanson, MA.
