Obituary of Marie Leonhardt Ella Marie Medley Leonhardt, age 80, of Asheboro passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at her home. Mrs. Leonhardt was born in Pilot Mountain, NC on September 18, 1938 to James Edgar and Etta Marie Wagoner Medley. Marie was a loving spouse, mother, and grandmother.

She enjoyed reading and studying the bible and playing scrabble. She was employed with the Western NC Church of God State Executive Offices as accounting data specialist for 15 years until her retirement. She was a wonderful pianist and accordion player.

She and her husband served the Church of God in many aspects. They served in the ministry for over 54 years together. They pastored the Sunset Avenue Church of God in Asheboro from 1984 to 1989.

North Belmont Church of God was the last church that they pastored together for 13 years until her husband’s death. In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Alvin Leonhardt and daughter, Saundra Leonhardt Channell.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Leonhardt and wife Tammy of Powell, TN and Doug Leonhardt and wife Laurie of Asheboro; grandchildren, Dalton Leonhardt and wife Natalie, Cole Leonhardt, Greg Leonhardt, Grant Leonhardt, Mandi Yarab and husband Joel, Jason Channell and wife Sommer, and Casey Channell; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Ferguson of Pilot Mountain; and brother, Garfield Medley of Mt. Airy. The family would like to express a special thank you to Hospice of Randolph and the host of caregivers for their care and concern during Marie’s illness.

A private family service will be held. Interment will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 12 noon at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 South New Hope Road in Gastonia with Rev. Donald Channell and Rev.

Carl Overton officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204-0009 Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro is serving the Leonhardt family.
