Marilyn K. (Kuhns) Harnish Loving Mother, Grandmother, and Sister – Marilyn K. (Kuhns) Harnish, age 88, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Sun City, AZ, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. Marilyn was born on Sunday, July 28, 1929 in Mechanicsburg to the late Rankin F. Kuhns and Gladys B. (Bitner) Kuhns. Marilyn was the widow of Warren Calvin Harnish, whom she married on September 12, 1953, and who died on April 13, 2004.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marilyn is preceded in death by a son, Robert R. Harnish. Marilyn’s survivors include her two sons: Mark W. Harnish and his wife, Nancy, of Medford, NJ, David L. Harnish and his wife, Cindy, of Wexford, PA; her five grandchildren: Andrew Mark Harnish and his wife, Jaclynn, of Mertztown, PA, Abby Elizabeth Harnish of Medford, NJ, Michael David Harnish of Wexford, PA, Deitra Louise Harnish of Wexford, PA, Kristin Marie Harnish of Wexford, PA; her sister, Winifred “Winnie” McCutcheon of Tallahassee, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1947 and from Pennsylvania State University in 1951 with a bachelor’s degree in home economics.
She retired from Iceland Seafood in Camp Hill, after over 20 years of service working as chief dietitian. Marilyn was a longtime devout member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Shiremanstown. She was a member of the P.E.O. (philanthropic educational organization), a dedicated and active alumna of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and a former member of the West Shore Country Club.
Her father was one of the original owners of Kuhns-Harnish Ford in Mechanicsburg, which remained a family-owned business for over 50 years. Marilyn loved to cook, play cards and games, and travel. Marilyn also enjoyed vacationing in Stone Harbor, NJ and spending time at the “the cottage”, her family’s summerhouse, along the Yellow Breeches Creek in Boiling Springs where many fond memories were made.
All are welcome to join Marilyn’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Monday, June 18, 2018, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with The Reverend Michael L. Seifried officiating. Marilyn’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the café next to Myers-Buhrig immediately following the service. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsburg will be at the family’s convenience.
