Marion Nell Burgin Slay, 85, of Gainesville, passed away Friday March 8, 2019 at her residence after a period of declining health. Mrs. Slay was born in Birmingham, AL on December 6, 1933 to the late John Burgin Sr. and Nell Webster Burgin. She was a retired bookkeeper for the family business, Charles Slay Construction Company.

She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was a member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church. For years she was an active volunteer at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as well as being a member of Civitan.

She loved traveling with Charles, reading and birdwatching with Charles on their deck. Survivors include her children, son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Angela Slay of Cleveland, daughter, Tammy Slay of Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Stacey Slay of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Amber (Jason) Slay Earnhardt, Cayla (Caleb) Slay Davidson, Logan Slay, Beau (Becky) Davis, Laurin (Brandon) Davis Thompson, and Quinn (Brittany) Davis, 12 great-grandchildren and brother, John Burgin, as well as many other loving relatives. Mrs. Slay is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Charles J. Slay Jr. The family will receive friends Monday, March 11, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Little-Davenport Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 12 at 3 p.m. at Gainesville First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Scott Hearn and Father Beau Davis will officiate, interment will follow at Alta Vista Cemetery. Mrs. Slay will lie in state at the church 1 hour prior to service time.

The family wishes to thank Mrs. Slay’s special caregivers Heather and Nicole, as well as the wonderful team at NEGAMC Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions may made to NEGAMC Hospice or Gainesville First United Methodist Church, in Mrs. Slay’s memory.
