Obituary for Mary Anne Hughes Utica – Mary Anne Hughes, 80, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Crouse Hospital. Mary Anne was born on January 2, 1938 in Utica, the daughter of Fred and Angeline (Grillo) Alam. She was a graduate of UFA.
On April 18, 1959, Mary Anne married Thomas Robert “Bob” Hughes in the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, a blessed union of nearly 56 years prior to Bob’s passing on January 27, 2015. Mary Anne was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed caring for her family and treasured her home, especially her front porch and view of the city park. As a member of the UFA Alumni she enjoyed planning many alumni reunions.
Mary Anne was a member of SOAR and enjoyed their monthly gatherings. She will be missed by her two feline companions, Dusty and Scotch. Surviving are her children, Natalie (Jan) Bogdanowicz, Montague, Dale Hughes, Utica, Glenn (Christina) Hughes, Florida and Michael (Connie) Hughes, Virginia; cherished grandchildren, Kayla Bogdanowicz, Patrick, Dale, Jr., Ashley, Amanda, Aaron, Krystal and Derek Hughes; great grandchildren, Bryce and Etta; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Jean Alam, Rochester; brother-in-law, Eugene Falvo, Utica and special family members, Linda and Tom Cerrito, New York Mills and their family who provided much comfort and support during the last months leading up to Mary Anne’s passing.
Mary Anne also leaves nieces and nephews of the Potasiewicz, Falvo and Carpenter families and longtime school friends Margaret Gantner, Utica and Evelyn Leon, Schenectady. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Fred Potasiewicz; in-laws, Thomas and Emma Hughes and sister-in-law, E. Jean Falvo. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday 4-6 p.m. at Surridge & Roberts Funeral Home, 470 French Rd.
, Utica. Funeral services will commence at 6 p.m. following visitation. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica.
