Obituary for Florence Moore Murnane Utica – Florence Moore Murnane, age 84, died peacefully in the company of her loving family at St. Elizabeth Medical Center on June 10, 2018. A lifelong resident of Utica, Florence was born on October 28, 1933 to her father, John A. Moore and mother, Clara Connerton Moore, who tragically died in 1949 when Florence was just 15 years old. Thereafter, she and her sister, Clair Moore Tallman, were raised by their father.

She attended St. Francis de Sales High School in Utica and St. Joseph’s College in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Her father, John, later married Monica Bagiackas, raising six of Florence’s and Clair’s deeply loved siblings. On April 21, 1956, Florence married her husband, Don P. Murnane, at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Newport, NY.

Together they raised six children in Utica, having lived on Proctor Blvd from 1964 through the present. After raising her children, she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from SUNY IT, thereafter working many years for Oneida County Social Services where she became a supervisor for Child Protective Services until her retirement in 2001. Florence is survived by her husband, Don; children: Anne Murnane Halloran (husband, Gary), Mary Murnane Zwagerman (husband, Peter), Don “Sam” P. Murnane, Jr. (wife, Patricia), Nora Murnane Robertson (husband, Michael), Sheila Murnane Devanny (husband, Timothy) and James B. Murnane (wife, Ryane); 14 grandchildren: Brendan Halloran, Lauren Halloran; Kaitlyn Zwagerman Tyler (husband, Kenneth), Peter Zwagerman, Jr.; Maria Georger, Thomas Georger; Kealan Devanny, Shannon Devanny, Declan Devanny, and Quinlan Devanny; Don “Trey” Murnane, III; Joseph Murnane, Mary Catherine Murnane, and Margaret Murnane; great granddaughter: Maisey Tyler; and siblings: John Moore, Michael Moore, Mary Faith Moore Brown, Bartholomew Moore and Bridget Moore; and brother-in-law, Eugene Tallman.

Florence was predeceased by her parents, sister, Clair and stepmother, Monica. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at McGrath, Myslinski, Karboski & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd. , Utica.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home and 10 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Florence’s name may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (www.

mda.org) or the Kelberman Center (www. kelbermancenter.org). Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
