Obituary for Robert S. Chudy – Robert S. Chudy, 77, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at St. Luke’s Home, with his loving family by his side. Bob was born on April 3, 1941 to Stanley and Mary (Swiderski) Chudy. He graduated from Holy Trinity School, UFA and attended MVCC.
He proudly served his country as an Army Reservist from 1963 until 1969. Bob married the love of his life, Maura Devenny on October 8, 1966, a blessed union of 51 years. Bob was employed at Bendix Corporation and Bossert Manufacturing for many years, and later worked with the Public Safety Division of the Utica Police Department, retiring in 2007.
Bob was a lifelong communicant of Holy Trinity Church in Utica where he served as a member of the St. Michael Lancers for 50 years. He was also a member of the Ushers Club and the parish volunteer organization. Bob was a loving, kind and gentle man who dedicated his life to God and family.
He was very proud of his Polish heritage and enjoyed sharing the traditions of Easter and Christmas holidays with his family. He loved the game of basketball and coached his son’s 5th and 6th grade basketball team at Holy Trinity School for several years. His life revolved around his children and grandchildren.
He was always there to pick up a hammer or paint brush and help with projects around their houses. Bob never missed a baseball or basketball game and attended all of their concerts, plays and academic celebrations. He loved to travel and he and Maura took many wonderful trips across the USA and around the world.
Before his illness, he was able to travel with his family to Walt Disney World, Washington DC, Alaska, England and Ireland. Nothing made him happier than sharing these experiences with his grandchildren. Ireland was his favorite, returning many times over the years to visit with his in-laws.
He was an avid NY Yankee fan and loved the NY Giants, Boston Celtics and Syracuse basketball, rarely missing watching a game. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Maura; his beloved children, Colette and Michael Wilk of Whitesboro and Brendan and Robin Chudy of Saratoga Springs; cherished grandchildren, Erika and William Scherer of Clayville, Matthew Wilk of New York City, Madeline, Nicholas, Nathaniel, and Natasha Chudy of Saratoga Springs and his great grandson, William Robert Scherer whom he adored. He is also survived by many cousins and their families, as well as his extended family in Ireland.
Bob was predeceased by his parents; brother, Ferdinand Chudy and sister, Arlene Chudy. The Chudy family would like to thank the administration, staff and physicians at the St. Luke’s Home. We will never forget the wonderful care and compassion that the staff on Barton East provided, not only to Bob, but also caring for Maura as she sat at his side all of these months.
