Winslow-Mary C. Roy was reunited with her beloved husband Gerald on November 28, 2018. She was born in Portland, Maine on September 19, 1933, the daughter of Caroline (Hyde) and Charles L. Rolfe. Mary was raised from early childhood by George and Alice Stevens, and their family became her family.

After many years of raising and caring for their four daughters at their home in Waterville, Mary re-entered the workforce, first at Waterville High School, and then moving on to Colby College a few years later. She worked a variety of secretarial and executive positions there, and enjoyed both the work and the satisfaction of meeting new challenges employment at Colby offered. She retired in 1988 after 20 years within the Colby community.
While working full time she also juggled the schedules and activities of her four girls, surely a daunting and challenging task for anyone, but one she undertook with love, or firm guidance, as needed. Mary also opened home and heart to anyone in need of a meal, a conversation, or a home. She was “Mom” to many throughout her years on earth.
For many years she enjoyed supporting Gerald in his work within the Lions Club, including travel throughout the state to attend meeting and functions. She tolerated with slightly less humor his many years in the newspaper distribution business. Mary was able to enjoy early retirement and together she and Gerald traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada, eventually spending their winters in Naples, Florida.
Mary will be lovingly remembered for her warm family gatherings both large and small; her endless sewing talents that lovingly clothed her family and beautifully created prom and weddings dresses for her daughters and granddaughters; maintaining a meticulous but ever welcoming home; her perpetual sense of style; and her ever helping hands and heart. Her grandchildren happily savor memories of her many indulgences such as swimming in the rain, serving crust less sandwiches, eating dessert before dinner and a wealth of other vices she would have never allowed her own children. They also cherish the moments of story times in the rocking chair, birthday lunches and shopping trips, motor home excursions to Storyland, Bailey’s Campground, Hershey, PA.
and endless other adventures to create a lifetime of memories. They also gratefully remember her boundless love, wise counsel without judgement and her endless encouragement in any endeavor over all the years of her life. Mary was predeceased by her husband Gerald, her parents, Caroline and Charles as well as Alice and George Stevens, her sisters Elizabeth, Margaret, and Rebecca and brother Jonathan, nephew Kevin and an extensive family of in-laws.
Mary is survived by her daughters: Katherine and husband Eric Lambert; Christine and husband Randy Phair; Louise and husband Roger Collins; Annette Roy and husband Clayton Hoak. She is also survived by grandchildren Matthew (Cheryl) Lambert; Meredith (Matthew) Rego; Nicole (Nicholas) Rodway; Jeff Phair and partner Rachelle Black; Shandy Collins and fiancée Daniel Robbins; Samuel Collins and Benjamin Collins; as well as great-grandchildren Mitchell, Graham, and Vivienne; Abigail, Isabel and Landon; Alison; and Elianna; brother Daniel Stevens; sister-in-law Laurel Stevens; and a multitude of loving and well-loved nieces and nephews; and a community of lifelong friends. We are also grateful to MaineGeneral Medical Center and to Lakewood Continuing Care for their excellent care and support throughout Mary’s final years. Family and Friends may visit from 1:30 to 3:30pm and 6 to 8pm on Monday December 3,2018 at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St. Waterville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM.
