Mary Elizabeth Woodley July 20, 1924 – January 25, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences Mary Woodley was born on July 20, 1924 in Lynchburg, Virginia, daughter of the late Henry Marshall and Althea Carrington. Mary spent her early years in Virginia and later moved to New York City after finishing high school as a young woman. Many years ago, she embraced our family as a young girl and afterwards, married Sidney Rudolph Woodley on August 24, 1956 in New Jersey.

Mary spent her career as a bookkeeper for Gimbels Department Store on 32nd Street in New York City until her retirement in the mid 1970’s. She was always there to help family and friends. She often expressed love and gave encouragement to relatives, friends and even people she did not know very well.

She loved to travel, taking photographs everywhere she went. She enjoyed baseball and one of her many passions were playing a variety of winning games where she flourished. She was an Eastern Star along with her three sisters-in-law and a member of St. Augustine Presbyterian Church in the Bronx.

Mary was very connected to her community and a longtime resident of the Dorian Brooks located in Harlem. She is survived by her adopted son, Alfred; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nephews, great great nieces; and a host of family and good friends.
