Mary Ellen Walden, 89, lovingly known as Nana, of Columbus, GA passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, GA. A funeral service will be held at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA on Saturday, December 15, 2018 beginning at 1:00 p.m. (EST) with Reverend Rodney Porter officiating. The interment will conclude at Parkhill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Vance-Brooks Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. (EST). Mrs. Walden was born on September 3, 1929 in Dothan, AL to the late John and Madie Howell. She was a charter member of Striplin Terrace United Methodist Church where she was also a faithful “STARS” member.

Living her life with a smile on her face and a servant’s heart, Mrs. Walden touched the lives of everyone she knew. She will always be remembered as a spunky and fun-loving person who always made sure the needs of others were taken care of before her own. Traveling was one of her favorite things to do, but spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, was her passion.

Other than her parents, Mrs. Walden is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Walden and son, Johnny “Mike” Walden. Survivors include her daughters, Connie Hamilton, Brenda Davis (Horton), and Linda Thomason (Richard); sister, Betty Jenkins (Pete); grandchildren, James Gibson (Kristi), Casey Thomason, Randi Edwards (Donnie), Anthony Davis (Alaina), and Ross Davis; great-grandchildren, Averi and Adisen Gibson, Hayley, Michael, and Noah Thomason, Ryleigh and Cambree Edwards, and Anabel Davis; special loving friends, Sandra Lee and George Windsor; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
