Mary Frances Johnson was born and raised in South Baltimore. She married Marion Herbert “Herb” Johnson in August 1950. She was 21 years old.

Mary Frances attended St. Mary Star of the Sea and Seton High Schools. Throughout her life, she worked part time as an organist for various parishes throughout Baltimore City and Baltimore County as well as her home parish, St. Ursula. She was also a cantor, a member of the choir and taught CCD for many years at St. Ursula’s in Parkville.

In addition she worked as a full time travel agent at Towson Travel for many years. Her love of travel motivated her and Herb to become eager travelers when they retired. She was an active member of the Horticultural Society, which she enjoyed.

Flowers, travel, and music, as well as writing, were her main interests. Herb and Mary Francees have 7 children: Katherine Showman (John), Martin (Rita,) James (Laura), Gerard (Sandra), Phil (deceased, 2016), Jeanne Johnson-Koester (Scott), and Angela Smith (Doug). Thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive her.

Two grandchildren predeceased her. For the past 10 years, she and Herb resided at Charlestown retirement community in Catonsville. On Thursday, May 23, there will be a brief viewing at the Church Our Lady of the Angels, located on the Charlestown campus, at 10:00 am followed by mass of Christian burial at 10:30.

Following the mass, Mary Frances will be laid to rest at Parkwood Cemetery located on Taylor Avenue.
