Mary Helen Murphy age 73 of Smithville and a longtime resident of Dowelltown and the Sycamore Community, passed away Monday morning, October 1, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born August 24, 1945 to her parents, the late Robert and Louise Tarr Baker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Murphy; 2 sons, Ray Murphy, Jr. and Brian Murphy; 1 brother, H.B. Baker; 3 sisters, Georgia Barber, Bonnie Howell and Shirley Gibbs.

She was a homemaker and a retired factory worker. Mary was a Baptist. Funeral services will be conducted 2:PM Thursday, October 4, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro.

Timothy Baker officiating and burial will follow in Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday 4:PM until 8:PM and Thursday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM. Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Murphy of Nashville; 3 grandsons, Jon Murphy of Nashville, Nathanyel (Natasha) Pedigo of Smithville and Trenton (Kim) Pedigo of Dowelltown; 11 great-grandchildren, Savannah, Sophia, Jackson, Kenadee, Katie, Alexis, Madison, Aiden, Landon, Lillian and Rylan; 3 brothers, Billy Baker of Smithville, Glen (Billie Ann) Baker of Liberty, Jimmy (Fay) Baker of Smithville; 3 sisters, Betty Scurlock of carthage, Dorothy Leach of McMinnville and Sue Mitchell of Cookeville; several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Cookeville Regional Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Ms. Mary. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
