Mary (Jerry) Field, 93, of Onancock, VA, died peacefully in her home on January 6th, at Commonwealth Senior Living (previously The Hermitage on the Eastern Shore). She was born October 28, 1925 to the late John McGimpsey and the late Marie McGimpsey, in Middletown, NY. In 1946 she married Dudley Field, and settled in Rockland County, NY, where they brought up four sons.

Upon Dudley’s retirement as a Captain for American Airlines, they retired first to Fire Island off Long Island, NY, and then in 1993 moved to Exmore, VA. In 2011, they moved to The Hermitage on the Eastern Shore. In all, they were married 68 years.

Jerry was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was particularly proud that her large circle of friends spanned all age groups. A holiday or special gathering always included a diverse and especially fun group of “Jerry’s friends”.

Jerry was an avid reader, a crossword puzzle enthusiast, and strongly preferred summer over winter. Watching a colorful sunset could stir her emotions. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Field is predeceased by her husband Dudley, and two sisters, Muriel and Doris.

She is survived by four sons: Thomas, Scott, James (Kimberly), all of Long Island, NY, and Brian (Barbara) of Lumberton, NJ. She also is survived by four grandchildren: Caitlin (Julia), Tyler (Sarah), Caleigh (George), and Isabella; by Peaches and Eric Dodge, a cousin, of Onancock; and by numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at The Hermitage for the loving care they have given Jerry over the last seven years; and expresses their love and gratitude to Carolyn Upshur, for her devotion to Jerry (and Dudley); and finally, thanks Williams Funeral Homes, Inc. for making arrangements (www.
