Mary’s Obituary Mary L. Hoffart, 83 of Devils Lake died early Thursday morning, March 14, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake in the loving care of her family. Mass of Christian Burial for Mary will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at Sts.

Peter and Paul Cemetery, rural Webster in the spring. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday, March 17, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Visitation on Monday will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.

Serving as Casket Bearers for Mary will be her sons David, Steven, Joseph, Anthony, Peter, James, Daniel, Scott and Samuel Hoffart. Reading the Scriptures will be Betty Allen and Anthony Hoffart, Jr. and Eucharistic Gifts by her grandchildren. Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist will be David and Bonita Hoffart.

Music provided by the Ternes Family. Mary Lucille was born March 23, 1935, the daughter of John and Minnie (Thompson) Zettler at the family homestead in Garske, ND. Mary went to grade school at Garske and high school at St. Mary’s Academy in Devils Lake, graduating with the class of 1953.

Mary worked at the School for the Deaf during the 1953-1954 and 1954-1955 school years. Mary and Leonard met the winter of 1950 while Mary was staying at her Uncle Ben Zettler’s home so she could attend high school. Mary and Leonard Hoffart were married on September 28, 1955 and lived in Devils Lake for a month doing odd jobs.

They moved to Southam, ND in November of 1955. In November of 1957, they moved to Mertens Dairy where Leonard worked. They made their home at the Dairy until July 4, 1980 when Mary and Leonard bought a home at Frison Addition, south of Devils Lake.

During this time, they started the boys in Cub Scouts and eventually became Scout Leaders of Pack 28. In the late 1990’s, Mary received the Silver Beaver, the highest adult volunteer award. Mary was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, involved with the CCD program, the Catholic Daughters, Altar Society and as a Eucharist Minister for many years.

Mary loved her Lord, her family and dear friends with all her heart. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. Mary is survived by her ten children David (Bonita) of Devils Lake, Steven (Patty) of Fargo, Joseph (Michele) of Dickinson, Anthony and Peter (Darlene) all of Devils Lake, James (Stephanie) of Stafford, VA, Daniel (Nancy) of Converse, TX, Mary Ann and Scott both of Devils Lake and Sam (Alycia) of Sioux Falls, SD; seventeen grandchildren Jessica (Ryan) Mayfield, Sheila (Ricky) Pearson, Ryan, Jon (Teia), Anthony Jr., Joey, Crystal, Michael, Carlie, Caitlin, Andrew, Tori, Joshua, Jayson, Jenny, Jordan and Sadie and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law John Zettler, Leeds, ND, Mikkel (Judy) Zettler, Devils Lake and Mary Eva Zettler, Denver, CO.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leonard on September 2, 2006; brothers William Zettler and Edward Zettler, sisters-in-law Pauline Zettler and Lorraine Zettler.
