Mary Lou Carpenter Hendrickson finished her race and passed away from agony to glory. She was a mother, sister, friend, and sister in Christ. In her time, she was a master seamstress, magnificent cook and an accomplished entrepreneur.

She never turned a hungry person away. Mary Lou was energetic and demanding, loving and direct. A force to be reckoned with.

She lived and loved God, family, friends and life. She also had a love for music and dancing. Mary Lou was born August 9, 1921 and experienced the roaring 20’s Great Depression and World War II.

Horse and buggy, Ford models A&T. Transportation by bus and train, the advent of air travel. A generation like none before or since.

Fiscally thrift and socially benevolent. She was one of the first known survivors or Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. She was preceded in death by her parents Marshal Carpenter and Hazel Hendricks Carpenter and a brother James Carpenter.

Mary birthed 9 children, 4 of them died in infancy, 1 passed at 18, Suzy Hendrickson in an automobile accident. She is survived of 4 children Barbara Armstrong (Dennis) of Montgomery, AL, Rocky Hendrickson (Cindy) of Springfield, TN, Linda Lou (Coke Sams) of Nashville, TN, and Rusty Hendrickson of Sommors Montana. 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Sara Jane Cummings of Franklin, KY also survive.

Celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Gilbert Funeral Home with burial to follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens in Simpson Co., KY Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until service time Tuesday at Gilbert Funeral Home. Mary was baptized into Christ by Brother Boyd in 1932 at Pedens Mill in Drakes Creek and became a member at Tyee’s Chapel. She later became a member at the Franklin Church of Christ and she was former owner of Mary Lou’s Restaurant in Franklin.
