Mary Lou’s Obituary Mary Lou Hippen, age 76, of Parkersburg, Iowa, formerly of Aplington, Iowa, was born the daughter of John and Grace (Hemmen) Evers on May 14, 1942, in Parkersburg. Mary Lou attended and graduated from Parkersburg High School. On June 8, 1962, Mary Lou was united in marriage with John Hippen, Jr. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg.

After their marriage, the couple made their home in Aplington. In 1968, they moved from their home to an acreage south of Aplington. Mary Lou and John were blessed with two sons, Timothy and David.

Mary Lou worked as a bank teller in Parkersburg at Peoples Bank, which later became Norwest and then Wells Fargo. Mary Lou was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. She enjoyed tending the acreage and growing flowers, especially petunias.

Mary Lou loved caring for the animals and riding horses. She participated in competitive barrel racing and rode her horses in area parades. Mary Lou enjoyed going to the sale barn in Waverly with her granddaughters, bowling in a league and attending Tim & David’s sporting events.

Mary Lou died Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John on December 23, 2014; two sons, Timothy on June 20,2018, and David on March 15, 2014; her parents; one brother, Pete Evers; and three sisters, Gertie Vanderwerf, Grace Rewerts and Ruth Linde. Mary Lou is survived by three granddaughters, Ashly (Nick) Bell of Parkersburg, Macy (Tony Opperman) Hippen of Allison and Mackenzie Hippen of Aplington; one daughter-in-law, Christine Hippen of Aplington; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm. Tuesday, March 12, at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Aplington. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm.
