Mrs. Mary McCLure Thomaston better known as “Marymom” or “Grandma” age 96 of Melrose passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Haven Hospice Custead Care Center in Orange Park. She was born January 12, 1923, in Jacksonville to Alexander and Leah (Geer) Borrego. Mrs. Thomaston graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1941 and retired after twenty years driving a school bus for Clay and Duval counties.

In 1972 Mrs. Thomaston made the Keystone Heights and Melrose area her home; she had been a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Keystone. She loved gardening and was known for her “green thumb”. In addition to her parents Mrs. Thomaston was also preceded in death by her first husband of 57 years Robert “Bob” McClure, Jr.; her daughter Priscilla Caverly and her second husband of 14 years Ronald Thomaston.

Mrs. Thomaston leaves behind two step-daughters Glenda Thomaston Appling (Bruce) and Brenda Thomaston Appling (Buster) all of Middleburg; a son in-law Guy Caverly of Keystone Heights; two grandchildren Robbie Caverly (Tammy) and Heidi Cuffee (Tyme); one great grandchild Aubrey Caverly (Jessica) and two great-great grandchildren Livi and Brooks Caverly. Also left behind is a host of extended family members, grandchildren and friends. A memorial service for Mrs. Thomaston will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019, at First Baptist Church Keystone with Pastor Jim Prose and Pastor Buster Appling officiating.
