Mr. Thomas “Tommy” J. Tyer, Jr. age 80 of Starke passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville. He was born September 27, 1938, in Gainesville to Thomas “Jack” and Bernice (Evans) Tyer and has been a longtime resident of Bradford County. Following his military service with the United States Army, Mr. Tyer became employed as a lineman with Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc. and retired after 37 years of service.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Starke and enjoyed wood working, cooking and gardening, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sisters Margaret Pullen and Wanda Perint. Mr. Tyer leaves behind his loving and dedicated wife of 60 years Frances (Martin) Tyer of Starke and their three children Tom Tyer (Sheri) of Callahan,Tammy Griffis (Bryan) of Raiford and Valerie Crawford (Jason) of Starke; four siblings Marvin Tyer (Gale) of Starke, Ronald Tyer (JoAnn) of St. Augustine, Leta Floyd of Jacksonville, Janice Wood (Jerry) of Hawthorne and Carolyn Buchanan (Gary) of Alachua.

He was also lovingly called “Papa” by his grandchildren Dustin Griffis (Kaitlyn), Tanner Tyer, Shane Crawford (Courtney) and Matthew Crawford along with his great granddaughter Addilynn Crawford. Funeral services for Mr. Tyer will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2019, in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Crook and Rev.

Tom Tyer officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be in memory of Tommy Tyer for his grandson, Dustin Griffis Kidney transplant.
