Mary Rosalie Richart, age 87 years, died peacefully at her home on June 24, 2018. She was born on January 11, 1931 in Detroit, MI to the late Emmet J. Corrigan and Mary L. McGinty Corrigan. Mary attended Our Lady of Mercy High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Marygrove College.

She worked on her Masters in Wisconsin, and was an elementary school teacher in the Detroit Public School system. Mary was a member of the AAUW for 60+ years. She and her husband… Read More » were avid boaters and members of the SBYC for 44 years.

She was a founding member of the Bay Arts Council and was instrumental in expanding arts education in schools, and beautifying Wenonah Park. She was on the YMCA Board of Directors, a Town Hall committee member and a long time member of St. Joseph parish where she served on the finance committee for many years. Mary was a voracious reader of history and current events with a passion for politics, but her proudest achievements were her 61 years of marriage to Bill and the nine children they raised together.

On July 7, 1956, she married the love of her life, George William Richart in St. Francis de Sales Church in Detroit and they shared their lives together for those 61 years until his death on September 30, 2017. Surviving family members include their children: Mary K. (Patrick) Chase, Theresa (Patrick) Wilberding, Margaret (William) Schulte, George William “Bill” (AnnMarie) Richart, Carolyn Wallace, Dr. James (Kimberly) Richart, Elizabeth Richart, and Judy (John) Hunsinger; their grandchildren: Chris (Michelle) Chase, Dan Chase, Katie Lash, Liz Schulte, Gwen Schulte, Will Richart, Faith Richart, Sara (Wes) Young, Maria (Sam) Thurstone, Michael Richart, Rebecca Richart, Richie (Alisha) Wallace, Andrew Wallace, Lauren Richart, Lindsey Richart, Bridget Hunsinger, Abby Hunsinger; five great grandchildren: Caitlin and Jack Chase, Sydney Lash, Jonathan and Lillian Wallace, and three more great grandchildren on the way; her daughter-in-law, Becky (Dan) Keating; and her siblings Margaret Rhodes and John (Carol) Corrigan. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Patrick Richart.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Friday, June 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Evangelist Church), 614 Pine at Hudson Streets, Essexville, MI. Mary will lie in state in the church chapel Friday after 10:00 AM. Rev.

Dale A. Orlik will preside and Rite of Committal will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish or the Capuchin Soup Kitchen (Development Office, 1820 Mount Elliott Street, Detroit, MI 48207). Visiting hours are Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with the Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel.
