Mary’s Obituary Mary Rae Featherstone Naylor returned home to her Father in Heaven and the loving arms of her sweetheart Dean on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019. Mary Rae was born in Bingham Canyon Utah on December 29, 1925. She was the first child of Mark Boley and Rachel Greenland Featherstone.
She was born two months premature and weighed only three pounds. Mary Rae grew up and attended school in Lehi and Highland Utah. She graduated from high school in May 1944.
She soon moved to Salt Lake City to attend nursing school at the Salt Lake General Hospital. She graduated with her diploma in nursing in 1947 then attended the University of Utah for another year graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 1948. Mary was a kind and compassionate nurse with a genuine love for her fellow man.
While she was a student nurse she met Hyrum Dean Naylor. They later met again at the U, had a very short courtship and were married on March 19, 1948 in Lehi, Utah. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on January 18, 1957.
Dean passed away on March 19, 2010. Their early married life began in Salt Lake City where Mary worked as an RN and Dean finished school. Soon they moved to South Jordan Utah and began to raise their family.
Mary worked for a short time after having children but soon realized the important calling of “mother” and was fortunate to be able to stay home and raise her family for 20 years. In 1969, Mary Rae, Dean and their six children moved to Malad Idaho where Mary resided the next 45 years. Mary returned to her nursing profession in 1974 at the Oneida County Hospital and Long term care.
She worked continually until her retirement in 1993. In 1975 Mary began yet another phase of life as a grandmother. Mary Rae adored her children and grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her delicious homemade chocolates every Christmas, Belgian waffle breakfasts, faithful letter writing to her missionaries, and holiday celebrations at her home. Mary Rae was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She faithfully served in many callings including Relief Society presidency, teacher, and Sunday school teacher.
She was a visiting teacher for many years and loved to serve others. Her favorite calling was Cub Scout den leader where she served for over 25 years. Mary loved her Cubs and was always so proud when any of them became an Eagle Scout.
Many young boys will remember her kindness, patience, Halloween spook alleys and the many craft projects they did. Mary instilled a love of reading to many of her children and grandchildren. She quilted and crocheted and many of her creations are cherished by her family.
Mary Rae is survived by her six children and their spouses: Craig (Diane) Naylor, Hyrum UT; Keven (Marcia) Naylor, Grandview WA; Mary Naylor, Malad; Michele (Matthew) Ishino, Shelley ID; Curtis Naylor, Grandview WA; Laurel (Patrick) Origer, Malad; 16 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dean, her parents, brothers, Keith, Mark, Tom, Lloyd, Lynn and her sisters, Arlene, Juanita and Carol. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Copper Summit Assisted Living in Pocatello for the loving care they provided to our mother the last 5 ½ years.
Also thanks to Encompass Hospice for their care. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 22 at 12 noon in the Malad LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, 400 N. 200 W.. Friends may visit with the family at the Horsley Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6-7 p.m. and Friday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the Malad Cemetery.
