Obituary for Mary M. Stanton (Hoefer) LATHAM – Mary M. Hoefer Stanton, 93, died peacefully at home on Sunday, February 10, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Albany, NY on July 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Florian and Margaret Elizabeth Mohr Hoefer. Mary grew up on the family farm in Latham and has been a lifelong resident of Latham.
She was employed by the A&P Market Business Office in Albany for many years and also worked at J.C. Penney in Latham. For 14 years she was employed by the NYS Comptroller’s Office in Albany before retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Robert Weininger VFW Post #8692 in Colonie, the Military Order of the Cooties, Colonie Seniors and bowled with the Lathamettes at the Latham Bowl.
She enjoyed playing pinochle, bingo, slot machines and scratch-offs. She was the wife of the late Gilbert L. Stanton; beloved mother of Carol L. (Gary) Wister of Peoria, AZ, Donna L. (Christopher) Parslow Cazzato of Watervliet and Janet L. (Christopher) Williams of Colonie; adored grandmother of Thomas (Rachel) Williams, Bruce Williams, James Wister and Margaret Woolf; dear sister of Sr. Catherine Hoefer of Syracuse and the late Robert, William and John Hoefer, Rose Olsey, Jane Wallace and Dorothy Storms. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:15 am from the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham and at 10:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Robert Weininger VFW Post #8692, 140 VFW Drive, Colonie, NY 12205 or to Trinity Episcopal Church, 1336 First Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189.
