OBITUARY Mary Stover Matthews January 13, 1927 – June 22, 2018 On what would have been our Dad’s 94th birthday, Mom died peacefully surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with Parkinson’s / Lewy Body Dementia in the Skilled Nursing Facility at Parkshore, Seattle. Mary Pat was born in Seattle in 1927 moving to Oakland, CA in 1934 . She returned to Seattle in 1940 attending Montlake Elementary School and graduating from Garfield High School in 1945.

She then went on to the University of Washington where she joined Wesley Club, Kappa Phi and Alpha Phi, of which she remained a lifetime member. She married Robert Howard Matthews in 1947, literally marrying the boy next door, as their childhood homes were right next to each other in Montlake. Through Dad’s banking career, they lived in Waterville, Newport and Quincy, WA where she served as President of the PTA.

They returned to Seattle in 1963, where they made their permanent home in Northeast Seattle. Mom was a long time member of PEO Chapter CY then G, Washington Athlet ic Club, Women’s University Club, Sand Point Country Club and the Royal Doulton Club. She was a longtime patron of the arts to include PNB, Seattle Opera, Seattle Symphony, Youth Symphony and the 5th Avenue Theatre.

She was an ardent Husky football fan having season tickets for many years. Mom loved family parties and celebrations and went to great lengths to provide special tablescapes and delicious food. Every season was an explosion of festive decorations making it fun for us all.

Her family meant everything to her. She and Dad were married 52 years before his passing in 1999. Mom was always known for her impeccable fashion sense, never leaving the home without looking fabulous.

She loved shopping and collecting anything and everything. Left behind to cherish her memory are her 4 children James (Renee), Susan Rouleau (Michael), David (Barbara) and Amy Spino (Mike). Grandchildren Jamie Bartel (Aaron), Blake (Mattea), Robbie and Danny.

Additionally 2 Great Grandchildren Lennon and Coen Bartel. Also survived by her sister JoAnn Spiegelberg of Yakima and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, July 24 at Sand Point Community United Methodist Church at 3pm with a reception immediately following at Sand Point Country Club.
