Matilda M. “Tillie” Pettit, 102 years, of Toledo, and formerly of Lakeland, Florida, Lansing, Michigan and Bryan, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Parkcliffe Community in Toledo. Tillie was born May 9, 1916 in Lincolnville, Indiana, the daughter of the late Dorsey Logan and Rose Ellen (Harrell) Smith. She married Russell E. Pettit on January 20, 1935, in Marion, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on November 6, 1994.

A devoted wife, mother and homemaker, Matilda was the founder of the Hot Lunch Program at Forest Road School in Lansing, Michigan. Tillie was a former member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan, Ohio and a current member of Monroe Street United Methodist Church in Toledo. Tillie enjoyed playing Bridge, teaching the game while living in Bryan.

Beginning life by traveling in at Storm King buggy, to flying around the world, crossing the Atlantic Ocean twice in the Concord and twice on the Queen Elizabeth 2, Tillie also traveled to all 50 states numerous times. She was loved by many and respected by all. Surviving is her daughter, Lynda (Clark) Collins, of Sylvania Township; five grandchildren, Timm Collins, Tami Collins, Heather Widman, Heidi (Steve) Stratton and Barbra (Brian) Young; three great-grandchildren, one very special great-grandson, Noah Widman; one great-great-granddaughter, Nellie Stratton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, two sisters and one brother. Memorial Services for Matilda Pettit will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 2018, in the Monroe Street United Methodist Church, 3613 Monroe Street, Toledo with Rev. Larry Clarke and Rev.

Bill Hull officiating. Interment was made in Shiffler Cemetery, Bryan, Ohio. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, Ohio (419-636-3139).
