OBITUARY Matthew David Gooch April 11, 1968 – July 11, 2018 Matt, age 50, died July 11, 2018. Born April 11, 1968 at Ft. Rucker, AL, he was the son of Douglas O. Gooch, Jr. and B.J. Phillips Gooch Burkhart.

He graduated from the University of Utah. Matt held a position in logistics at Health Stat and was presently studying ultrasound sonography at South Piedmont Community College. He was a certified Emergency Medical Technician.

The service to celebrate Matt’s life will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, July 14th at Morningstar Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents, Matt is survived by step father, Tony Burkhart, step mother, Paula Gooch; sister, Melissa Gooch Weyman and husband, Dr. Michael Weyman, Jr.; brothers, Jason Gooch and wife, Jenifer and Chad Gooch; grandmothers, Mary Jane Collins Gooch and Dorothy Moyer; niece and nephews, Lt. Michael Weyman, III, Nicholas Weyman, Jacob Weyman, Lila Gooch and Samuel Gooch; uncles, David Phillips and wife, Reba and Dennis Gooch and wife, Elaine; and cousins, Dennis Gooch, Jr. and Sharon Gooch.

Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, TD and Joyce Phillips and Douglas Gooch, Sr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mental Health America of Central Carolinas, 3701 Latrobe Drive, Suite 140, Charlotte, NC 28211 or to www. skates2scholars.org – to help hockey players get to college.
