Obituary for Matthew L. Purdy Matthew L. Purdy, 39, of Kearney, died Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at his home. Mr. Purdy was cremated and services will be held at a later date. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is serving the family.

Condolences may be shared online at www. osrfh.com. Matthew Lee Purdy was born on June 15, 1978 in West Palm Beach, Florida to Richard “Steve” and Carol E. (Eckstein) Purdy.

The family moved to Elwood, Nebraska when Matt was four. He moved back to West Palm Beach when he was 16 years old. In 2007 he returned to Nebraska and made his home in Kearney.

Matt love working with his hands and was extremely gifted both mechanically and electronically. He had free spirit, a huge heart and loved all animals. Most of all, Matt loved spending time with his family, especially his niece and nephew.

Matt also loved shooting off fireworks and looked forward to the 4th of July every year. He is survived by his mother, Carol Purdy of Kearney; four brothers, his twin Michael Purdy of Kearney, Travis Purdy of Cozad, Logan Purdy of Eustis and Tregg Reiss and wife Brittany of Kearney; a niece, Adrianne Purdy; a nephew, Cameron Purdy; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Matt was preceded in death by his father, Steve Purdy; his grandparents and his beloved dog, Maxwell.
