Max Lamoine Ummel was born March 15, 1932 in Ransom, Kansas to Lester and Barbara (Briggs) Ummel. He passed away March 6, 2109 in Oklahoma City at the age of 86. Max grew up in Kansas and served his country proudly in the United States Navy.

He was stationed on a ship in the Philippines during most of his naval career. After his service he became an engineer working in Arizona where he met and married Barbara (Morachwer) in 1970. He then continued working as an engineer in Oklahoma, Northern California and later in main land China for a year.

Upon retirement he and his wife settled in Carney where he ran the local feed store for many years. Max was passionate about dogs which he trained obedience and showed in confirmation. He enjoyed singing in church as well as other places and served as the secretary of the Carney Cemetery for many years.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Barbara Ummel; son, Gary Ummel; granddaughter, Sara MacCallum; and sister, Maureen Bratton. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Barbara Ummel of the home; daughter, Andi and her husband Bruce MacCallum of California; (3) grandchildren, Shannon and her husband John Simon of Stillwater, Kristi and her husband Matt Lewis of Edmond, Kevin MacCallum of California; (4) great-grandchildren, Ryan Williams, Karlie Ann Simon, twins Kristyn and Kaitlyn; along with other family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2019 in the Lehman Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Joe Merrell officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
