Max Walter Powell, 81, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday evening, September 29, 2018, at his home in Milton, Indiana. One of five children of Floyd W. and Edna Opal Beck Powell, Max was born on April 30, 1937, in Connersville and was raised on the family farm. Max graduated with the class of 1955 from Alquina High School where he played varsity basketball all four years.

On July of 1956, Max married his high school sweetheart, Frances Marie Browning. Mrs. Powell passed away on August of 1991. In 1992, Max married Mary Jane Leismer, who passed away in 2003.

In 2004, Max married Donna R. Powell. Mrs. Powell survives. Max was employed at Roots-Blower Corporation in the assembly department and had been a company truck driver.

He retired in 1999 after 37 years of service. Max also drove a school bus for Fayette County School Corporation for over 52 years. In addition, he drove the company truck for Casket Shell, Inc. of Connersville for a year.

Max was a charter member of Connersville Baptist Temple where he had served as Chairman of the Deacons on the Deacon Board, a Sunday School Teacher for many years, and a choir member. Max had also served as a lay minister with the Methodist Church in his earlier years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed going to sporting events, especially, Spartan basketball games and visiting with family and friends.

Besides his wife, Donna Powell, survivors include three children, Rodney (Tami) Powell of Anchorage, Alaska, Robin (Alan) Jeffries of Connersville, and Rae Ann (David) Fitch of Westmont, Illinois; three grandchildren, Dan (Amanda) Jeffries of Lafayette, Indiana, Tim (Danielle) Jeffries of Connersville, Max Fitch of Westmont, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Landon Jeffries, Luke Jeffries, and Alexis Jeffries; a sister, Marietta (Louis) Cloud of Cullowhee, North Carolina; two brothers, Maurice (Shirley) Powell of Milton and Mark (Kathy) Powell of Connersville. Max is also survived by Donna’s children, Jeff Smith of Carlsbad, California, Denise (Robert) Stanger of Greenwood, Indiana, and Teri (Allen) Blair of Cambridge City; grandchildren, Jeffrey Smith, Julianne Stanger, Katrina Stanger, Chase Stanger, Trey Blair, and Christiane Blair. In addition, Max is survived by Mary Jane’s children, Judy (Eloy) Pol of Belize, Central America, Janet (Boyd) Cooper, Kim (Mark) Hynes of Arizona, Pennie (Keith) Green of Iraan, Texas, Jack Leismer of Connersville, Troy Leismer of Dublin, Indiana, David Leismer of Atlanta, Georgia, Joe Leismer of Ohio, and their families.

Besides Frances and Mary Jane, Max is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Merle Neal Powell. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Connersville Baptist Temple, 1380 State Road 44, Connersville, Indiana 47331. Reverend Randal Collins, Reverend George Nester, and Pastor Joe Ferreira will officiate.
