On a beautiful fall afternoon on November 8, 2018, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Max Rulon Bleckert, returned to our Heavenly Father and reunited with many loved ones. Max passed away at St. Joseph’s Villa Care Center due to incident of age just shy of his ninety-first birthday. Max was born November 18, 1927 in Salt Lake City to Theodore and Ethel Bleckert.
He was raised in Salt Lake with his sister Bernice. Max attended the University of Utah and was a true “Utah Man”. While attending the university, he and three of his friends joined the Army.
He served in Korea for two years where he learned to hate rice. Max married Jean Riding on November 1, 1949 (later divorced). They moved to Bountiful, Utah in 1956 and raised seven children: Jorjean Rhynsburger, Kathy Holyoak (Kim), Mark (Kim) Bleckert, Jolene Houtz (Russ), Jannice Rojas, David (Paula) Bleckert, Cary Scott Bleckert.
Max married Diane Linnebach Stoner on December 15, 1988. They were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple. When he married Diane, Max gained four more children, Kathy (Mike) Gardner, Stephen Stoner, Dana (Dave) Dineen and Jill (Kelly) Huntsman.
Max had many grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved their Grandpa Max. Max worked at Beehive Refinery, KBBC radio and later in the banking industry. He loved sports, but the University of Utah was his favorite.
Max was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a love of the gospel. He had many callings and served a service mission with his wife Diane for eighteen months. Max was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Ethel, sister Bernice Jacobs and her husband Iland, son, Cary Scott, son-in-law, Daniel Rojas, great grandchildren Stephen Rhynsburger, Kaleb Mitchell, Jacob Bruehl and Jamie Huntsman.
Max was a “gentle giant” who gave the best great big hugs ever. He had a beautiful, deep voice and loved to sing. He was always happy and laughing and loved to joke around.
While in the care center in his last days he would talk to his sweetheart every night on the phone and would end with singing her a song, usually with words he made up as he sang. We love you Max and will miss you dearly. Funeral services will be held on November 15, 2018 at Goff Mortuary.
There will be a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Murray City Cemetery. The family would like to thank the many caregivers at St. Joseph’s Villa for their kind and compassionate care of Max.
