Obituary for Maxine Marie Wilkes Maxine Marie Wilkes, 93, of Chesapeake, Ohio passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. She was born on October 2, 1924 to the late Roscoe and Susie (Gibson) Sites. Maxine married the love of her life, Bernard “Peck” Wilkes, on November 17, 1939.
The two were happily married for 51 years. Maxine worked as a teacher’s aide in the Chesapeake School District where she retired in 1984. Long after her retirement, she spoke of teachers and students who positively impacted her life.
Upon retirement, she moved to Seminole, FL, lived there for several years, then moved back to Chesapeake, OH where she resided the remainder of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Proctorville. She enjoyed watching sports, working in her yard, baking, and spending time with her family.
Maxine touched the lives of many people, most of whom knew her by “Granny”. She loved fiercely and was incredibly loved. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; 5 siblings, Charles, Mary Evelyn, Shirld, Dorothy and Betty; her husband, Bernard “Peck” Wilkes; her son, Richard Wilkes; and her grandson, Kent Jeffers.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Linda Jeffers, of Chesapeake, OH; her daughter-in-law, Beverly Wilkes, of Hurricane, WV; her grandchildren, Valerie Jeffers, of Chesapeake, OH; Brent (Beverly) Jeffers, of Chesapeake, OH; Deron (Debbie) Wilkes, of Middletown, OH; Joy Wilkes, of Huntington, WV; Neil (Tao) Wilkes, of Columbus, OH; Corey (Beth) Wilkes, of Columbus, OH; Daniel Wilkes, of Las Vegas, NV; Julie (Ron) Fouts, of Columbus, OH; 20 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life. Visitation will be held at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home, 313 Big Branch Road, Chesapeake, OH on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, 198 Private Road 1336, South Point, OH.
