A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. Chaplain Tom Livengood will officiate.

The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home. Melvin, the son of the late Marvin William Ross and Georgia Nicholson Ross was born August 12, 1946, in Blairsville, Georgia. His brother, Bill Ross and his sister, Margie Ross Smith preceded him in death.

He was a retired elevator and escalator technician and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during Vietnam. Melvin is survived by his son, Calvin Whitley (Tomoko) of Jackson; companion, Janice Slaughter of Jackson; sisters, Mildred Griffith of Cumming and Milan Espinoza of Flowery Branch; grandchildren, Reina Whitley and Sakura Whitley; numerous nieces and nephews. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
