Merilyn Carter Penn, age 86, stepped into heaven Dec. 12, 2018. She was born Dec.

31, 1931 in Eagle River to Frank and Alida Carter. Merilyn was a well-known pianist (and sometimes organist) in the area. She played for Northland Pines High School as well as many local churches.

She loved music and especially loved working with teenagers in music. She was also an avid reader. Merilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Alida Carter, husband, Dr. Paul D. Penn, DDS;… Read More » brothers, Lyman Carter, Bob Carter, Frank Carter; sister, Florence LaRenzie; and son, John Penn.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Ellen (Bud) Swanson, Laurie (Dave) Kirby, Amy (Jim) Berndt and Paula Penn; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at 1pm at the Three Lakes Evangelical Free Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Merilyn C. Penn Music Scholarship Fund for aspiring young musicians, details to follow.
