OBITUARY Merle Clair Dement February 11, 1930 – June 21, 2018 Merle C. Dement, 88, of Portland, passed away June 21, 2018. He was born in Portland on February 11, 1930. Merle graduated from Jefferson High and also attended Oregon State University.

He was married to Lucille Hergert Dement on April 30, 1949. Merle was preceded in death by his wife in 2011. Merle worked as a grain inspector for both state and federal agencies.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and had a passion for the Blazers, Beavers, and cribbage. He is survived by 4 children: son Mike Dement (Linda) of Williamsburg, VA; and daughters Sherri Saunders (Scott) of Creswell, OR; Jan Dunn of Portland, OR; and Carolyn Hawk (Dave) of Boise, Idaho. He is also survived by 8 grandsons and 9 great-grandchildren.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Thank you to the caring staff of West Hills Village.
