Merle Hershberger , September 10, 1951 — April 23, 2018

Merle Hershberger, 66, husband of Effie Grace Yoder Hershberger, had an address change to his eternal Heavenly home on Monday, April 23, 2018 at their home in Belton, SC. He was born September 10, 1951 in Norfolk, VA to the late Henry J. and Anna Elizabeth Yoder Hershberger. Mr. Hershberger was a member of Whispering Pines Mennonite Church, Honea Path, SC.

During the last years, he would often be heard saying “I wish I could go to sleep tonight and wake up in Heaven”. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Lee Hershberger; his father-in-law, Clark C. Yoder; and a sister-in-law, Betty Lou Masters Hershberger. Mr. Hershberger is survived by his wife of 45 years and five months, Effie Grace Yoder Hershberger, of the home ; a son, Jacob Roy Hershberger (Valerie) of Abbeville, SC; a daughter, Elizabeth Mae Hershberger Tredway (AJ) of Anderson, SC; four brothers, Paul Hershberger (Anna Mae) of Delta, CO, Junior Hershberger (Barbara) of Abbeville, SC, Ray Hershberger of Pickens, SC, and Marvin “Buddy” Hershberger of Iva, SC; two sisters, Dorothy Hershberger and Martha Hershberger, both of Iva, SC; three grandchildren, Isaac, Jamie and Amelia Hershberger, all of Abbeville, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was also the father to over 30 foster children. To honor Merle and his life, we would like to have you join us at any or all of the following events. The family will receive friends 6:00PM – 8:00PM, Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Whispering Pines Mennonite Church, 7085 Highway 20, Honea Path, SC 29654.

A graveside service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, April 27, 2018, in Whispering Pines Mennonite Church Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM in the church sanctuary.
