OBITUARY Michael Joseph Gilabert April 24, 1935 – October 1, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Michael Joseph Gilabert, 83, of Deltona Florida, passed away in the presence of his loving family on October 1, 2018. Michael is survived by his three children, Joseph, George and Monica Gilabert; four grandchildren, Joseph Vasquez, Kelly Vasquez, Isabella Vasquez and Grace Gilabert; two great grandchildren, Neveah Leon and Josiah Vasquez; brothers, Antonio, Frank, Mario (and the late Joseph) Gilabert; and numerous nephews and nieces. Michael was married to the love of his life, the late, Grace Gilabert for 47 years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Deltona, FL with burial to follow at Deltona Memorial Gardens in Orange City, FL. The family will greet friends to celebrate Michael’s life from 5:00 to 8:oo PM on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home in Orange City, FL. Michael had several careers during his life.

He served in the U.S. Army (in Germany after World War II), he was a History and Spanish high school teacher, and Insurance Salesman. Michael loved to meet and help people, he continued volunteering to deliver Meals on Wheels until the very end. Michael had a vast knowledge on many topics, was an avid NY Times crossword puzzle, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune enthusiast and master.

As mentioned, Michael loved to meet people, and could talk to anyone intelligently about pretty much any topic. He loved to tell jokes and stories. Michael was so proud to be from Paterson, NJ and the country of Spain – the birthplace of his parents, Joseph and Maria Gilabert.

He knew everything about the history of Paterson and Spain and many other places, such as Colombia, the birth place of his wife, Grace. Michael also had a passion for sports, particularly Yankees baseball and Florida Gators football. He could always be seen with a Gators or Spain hat and a University of Florida T-shirt.

Most of all Michael can be best remembered as someone who was kind and friendly to everyone. He loved his whole family greatly, he was absolutely smitten with his grandkids and great grandkids. Condolences may be offered at www.
