Obituary for Michael R. Kava Michael R. Kava, known as Bob to those who knew him best, died on Thursday, April 26, 2018. He was 83. Born on May 15, 1934, in Passaic, N.J., Bob was the son of Michael Kava and Mary (LeJava) Kava, both of whom predeceased him, and the brother of Eleanor Kava.

Bob was a graduate of Lodi High School and a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Signal Corps in Poitiers, France, from 1957 to 1959. He met his future bride, Jennie Fontanelli, in the summer of 1956 and they married three years later, on Sept. 19, 1959, at Holy Rosary Church in Jersey City.

He was employed for 42 years by Kearfott-The Singer Company (later Lockheed Martin) in Little Falls, N.J., where he worked in the Guidance and Navigation Department. He retired in 1999. Bob was an accomplished bowler and rolled three, 300 games, one of which was sanctioned by the American Bowling Congress.

In addition to bowling, he loved to fish, garden and play the horses at Meadowlands Racetrack, Monmouth Park and the Saratoga Race Course. In addition to his wife, Jennie, he is survived by his son, Michael Kava; his daughter, Janine Kava (Robert M. Carney); and his granddaughter, Michelle Kava. He also is survived by other relatives and loved ones, including two sisters-in-law, a niece, a nephew, seven grandnieces, two grandnephews and one great-grandnephew.
